Maharashtra to ban CBSE textbooks on sex education

The Maharashtra Government is going to ban in the state textbooks published by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) containing material teaching sex to school students.

The Minister of State for School Education, Hasan Mushrif, announced the ban in the Assembly on Friday when the House debated the Opposition Shiv Sena-BJPs calling attention motion on the Governments move to make sex education compulsory from the standard six onwards from the next academic year.

The opposition members said amidst noisy scenes that the CBSE books contained obscene photographs and could harm the students who are as young as 12 years.

Maharashtra Govt. bans CBSE sex education books Announcing a ban on sex education books of CBSE syllabus in Maharashtra, the state government today said there was no plan to introduce the subject in school syllabus. The announcement was made by Minister of State for School Education Hasan Mushrif, while replying to a calling-attention notice by Rajendra Patni (Shiv Sena), Shobha Phadanvis (BJP) and others. National anthem to be compulsary across Maharashtra schools

Mumbai: Maharashtra government is about to give nod to implement a code of conduct for schools, which will guarantee singing of the national anthem and celebration of national days and flag hoisting in all CBSE and ICSE-affiliated schools across the state. The state government is also determined to enforce the code very strictly throughout the state. If you are a Class 1 student, you will carry only three textbooks from the next academic year Hindi, English and Mathematics. The CBSE has fixed limits on the number of textbooks schoolchildren can carry to school. The limit for Class 5 students is six textbooks and for Class 7 and 8 students, 11 books.
