Esha Tipnis, a student who wants to opt for engineering said, I feel CET is a must thing for students to get into a desired field as we come from different boards ICSE, CBSE and Maharashtra board. So our study pattern and the talent level vary from one student to another. At CET students talent is tested on the merit and they get admissions based on these scores but I oppose the reservation system.
According to the figures given by the Directorate of Technical Education (Maharashtra), there are in all 163 colleges and 51,282 seats for engineering, 58 colleges and 3,775 seats for medical and 107 colleges and 6,225 seats for pharmacy in the state. The number of students appearing for this test is 1, 76,247 which is more than the available seats.

The Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Education has taken a cue from the ICSE and CBSE boards which has scrapped the system of announcing the merit list. It, too, will follow suit from the next academic year. The decision, however, hasnt gone down well with academicians and this years rank holders.
Students said that the boards decision would demotivate students.
With the introduction of the grading system, students will not take the board exams seriously.

Marks scored in the qualifying examination are likely to be given 50 per cent weightage for the final score of the engineering / medical entrance examinations from 2008. The nature of the entrance examinations - based on multiple choice questions - is itself unlikely to change immediately.
A committee appointed by the LDF government to suggest changes in the engineering / medical entrance examinations is reportedly preparing to make these recommendations for the 2008 entrance examinations. The committee is scheduled to meet in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.
