The Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan group of schools launched its year-long golden jubilee celebrations on Thursday, with students, parents, alumni, faculty and well-known admirers gathering to pay tribute to the premier institution and its founder-director Mrs. Y.G. Parthasarathy.
Starting with just 13 students in a thatched roof shed on her own terrace in 1958, Mrs. Parthasarathy has nurtured the institution to its current position as one of the city’s best schools with 8,000 students and 500 staff members at three branches in Nungambakkam, T. Nagar and K.K. Nagar.
Central Board of Secondary Education chairman Ashok Ganguly said Mrs. Parthasarathy’s influence went beyond the PSBB schools; she contributed to the growth and development of the CBSE system itself, besides shaping Indian educational trends. He asked the PSBB to vow to lead the growth toward excellence of all schools. “It is not enough to develop as an island of excellence…you need to make linkages so we can establish excellence in every school in India,” he said.
