Students set for ‘Mission Boards’

Over 13 lakh students will appear for the Class X and XII exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Saturday onwards.

While there are 7,65,095 candidates appearing for the Class X exam, 5,48,815 students have registered for the Class XII exam.

The total number of candidates shows an eight per cent increase over last year. Over 12 lakh students had appeared in the exams last year.

About 2,500 physically challenged students will appear in the exams. They include 373 visually challenged students in Class X and 214 such candidates in Class XII.

There will be 2,624 centres for Class X and 2,394 centres for Class XII students.

About 18,000 students have registered for the exams from foreign countries.

In Delhi region, 2,19,796 students have registered for the Class X exam, while there are 1,60,414 students for the Class XII exam.

For the first time, 20 per cent of the questions will be based on ‘high-order thinking skills’ as prescribed by the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the guiding document for preparation of NCERT textbooks.

A 15-minute cool off time, given to help students read and understand the questions, will continue as before.

Don’t scrap merit list

The Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Education has taken a cue from the ICSE and CBSE boards which has scrapped the system of announcing the merit list. It, too, will follow suit from the next academic year. The decision, however, hasnt gone down well with academicians and this years rank holders. Students said that the boards decision would demotivate students. With the introduction of the grading system, students will not take the board exams seriously. CBSE schedule for Boards announced The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the date sheet for the Class X and XII exams scheduled for March. While Class XII exams start from March 1, Class X exams start a day later.Maintaining the general order, the Class XII exams will start with physics, office and secretarial practice, mechanical engineering and cash management and house keeping followed by fashion studies the next day.
