The number of candidates for the All-India Pre-Medical Test (PMT) this year has declined by 40,000 as compared to last year, a trend that has been there for sometime now.
“The number has been declining for the last three to four years but it was not very high till last year. But this year it is a significant decline,” said Shayam Bharadwaj, assistant secretary (PMT) in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
As against about 200,000 candidates in 2007, only about 160,000 students appeared for the test, conducted by the CBSE, yesterday.
In fact, CBSE has been witnessing such a declining trend for the last few years.

Students face NCERT books crisis

The CBSE has begun accepting on-line applications for the All India Pre-medical/Pre-dental entrance examination, 2008.
Aspiring students can submit their applications on-line on the website of the Central Board of Secondary Education, a CBSE official said.
The entrance test, conducted for 15 per cent of the merit positions in medical and dental colleges all over the country, involves a preliminary and final examination.

Principal threatens victim's brother
A class VIII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vigyan Vihar, in east Delhi was allegedly beaten up by the school principal on Saturday. The victim, Ravi Sharma, was taken to GTB hospital, where doctors treated him for the fracture and a police case was lodged. Arora was arrested on Sunday.
