NEW DELHI: Delhi Universitys (DU) commerce department has been pulled up by the universitys standing committee on syllabus, for doing a shoddy job of designing a new syllabus for the B Com (pass) programme. The syllabus has been sent back to the department asking for the revised version to be submitted as soon as possible.
For prospective B Com (pass) students of the university, meanwhile, these developments mean that they might have to continue with the 44-year-old syllabus for yet another academic year.
DELHI UNIVERSITY is in the advanced stage of testing and validating a comprehensive programme, which will enable aspirants to the varsity to apply for admissions online.
With this, DU oficials say, the entire process of manual applications will be done away with.
Particularly useful to aspirants from outside Delhi, the system promises to lighten the pressure of thousands of aspirants who line up at the Universitys doors every year .
Delhi Universitys (DU) common pre-admission form would be simpler this year. The admission form would be a single sheet document which will be based on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) technology.
The students would just have to darken the required circles with a pencil or in blank ink, which will be taken up by the computer.
The form which can be marked on both the sides, would ask students to fill in details such as name, date of birth, class XII examination roll number, result, year in which school was completed, the subjects that the student has opted and marks obtained.

Though the average scores have increased only by 0.5 per cent in Delhi Universitys first cut-off list, competition will certainly be more tough this time. The 2,000 odd city students who scored above 90 per cent in CBSE, face a stiff competition in subjects like B Com (P), BCom (H) and Economics (H).
And its not just the elite colleges that are seeing an increase. Even the peripheral colleges too are showing a cut-off that is heading north. This year, English (H) is up by one per cent, Economics (H), BCom (Pass) and BCom (Hs) are up by 1.5 per cent.
