AN awards ceremony for outstanding students of The Indian School was held yesterday at their Jashanmal Auditorium, Isa Town.
Labour Ministry employment director Dr Mohammed Ali Ansari was the chief guest of the event, held by the school.
School chairman P V Radhakrishna Pillai who delivered the welcome address said, “Our students have done us all proud. It is indeed a matter of pride to be present amidst all the smiling faces, reflecting the sunshine of merits, the result of hard work.”
The school toppers of Class 10 and 12 who sat the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations in March were honoured.
The subject toppers and the students, who secured an A1 grade in the exam, were also awarded.
Students from Class Five to 11 were awarded gold medals and merit certificates for their academic excellence.
Teachers who have served the school for 15 years and 25 years were given the Long Service Award and those who maintained a 100 per cent attendance were also felicitated during the ceremony.
The Bahrain Chapter of the Society of Engineers India sponsored a special award for those who scored the highest marks in Engineering Drawing.
A record number of eight Class 12 students who secured 99 marks in the subject this year received the special award.

Class IX parents meet CBSE chairperson, MP
THE parents of Class IX students of Ryan International School, Sector 49, Chandigarh, met Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister of State Finance, in Delhi, regarding the fate of their children. They also met the CBSE chairperson, Vineet Joshi.
The parents had gone to Delhi to discuss the course of action for the Class IX students, who have their annual exams from March 1.

CBSE declares datesheet for Class X, XII exams
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday announced the detailed programme for the 2007 Class-X and Class-XII examinations.
The class-X exam will start on March two and begin with the Social Science paper. Mathematics is slated for March eight, while the date for English paper is March 16. The exam will be over on March 28.
The class-XII exam will start with Physics paper on March one and will be over on April 10. Accountancy paper is slated for March 15 and Economics on March 26.
Over seven lakh candidates would
Over 13 lakh students will appear for the Class X and XII exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Saturday onwards.
While there are 7,65,095 candidates appearing for the Class X exam, 5,48,815 students have registered for the Class XII exam.
The total number of candidates shows an eight per cent increase over last year. Over 12 lakh students had appeared in the exams last year.
About 2,500 physically challenged students will appear in the exams. They include 373 visually challenged students in Class X and 214 such candidates in Class XII.

Students of classes VIII, IX in a soup now
Even as the Class X students of Ryan International School, Sector 49, have been allowed to appear for the board examinations, things are getting difficult for those studying in classes VIII and IX. The CBSE, during a hearing in the High Court, had stated that students of classes IX and VIII were not eligible to take admission in Class X and Class IX, respectively, as they were not from a school recognised by the board.
